Youth Policy

Dragon Dreaming prides itself on being an evolved family friendly event. In past years we have been privileged that members of our community feel safe and supported in bringing their young children to the event. You play a large role in ensuring that it remains this way. As an all ages event we encourage young adults in our community to come and experience the festival. In order to ensure the safety of everyone we have the following guidelines in place. Security staff will strictly adhere to the following so please familiarise yourself with the details.

Young people aged between 13 & 16 can only attend the Festival with a responsible parent/guardian present. This means exactly what it says, an 18 year old mate does not count as a responsible parent or guardian.

Entry to Dragon Dreaming: (At the gate)

  • If gate staff believe a person is under 16 then the ID of both the young person and the accompanying parent/guardian will be checked at our Gates, whether they are entering with pre-paid tickets or purchasing tickets.
  • All parent/guardian ticket and youth ticket holders within a group must arrive at the festival entry gate together.
  • Security is authorised to remove anyone, youth or adult who is behaving in an anti-social, disruptive or illegal manner. Please note any illegal conduct will be referred directly to the Australian Federal police
  • To ensure the safety of any young person asked to leave the event, the parent or guardian will also be asked to leave along with any other young people who entered with that guardian. If the parent or guardian cannot be found OR the young person will not tell security who they are, police will be called. At that time the young person will be given over to police custody and information including a photo of the young person will be kept at the festival info tent.
  • Any breach of the above Terms of Entry will result in refusal of entry/removal of offender from the event with no exceptions. In this event absolutely no ticket refunds will be given.

Do young people have to stay with an adult the whole time?

No, but security is authorised to remove the wristband and remove anyone who is behaving in an anti-social, disruptive or illegal manner. If a young person is removed for unacceptable conduct, the parent/guardian will also be removed along with any other youth who entered with that guardian.

What about children under the age of 13?

Children aged 12 or under are entitled to free entry to the Festival, again, with a responsible, accompanying parent/guardian.

Make the most of your Dragon Dream

This is an outdoor event in a remote forest location. Dragon Dreaming runs continuously for four days. It is essential to plan for this and ensure that you bring appropriate warm clothing and footwear, and if you plan to stay overnight, you will need camping gear and sufficient food and money to meet your needs. Please note that there is a possibility of wet weather, strong winds and other adverse weather conditions so plan accordingly and ensure you can keep safe and dry throughout the event. There is limited mobile phone reception but we do have security and first aid onsite.

Underage Drinking

Underage drinking will not be tolerated. If a young person is found consuming alcohol the following procedure will be followed:

First OffenceThe young person will be asked to surrender the alcohol. Security will then make an assessment based on their professional experience. If the young person is deemed to be intoxicated and a danger to themselves or others then they will be asked to leave the event. In this case, the procedure for anti-social or disruptive behaviour will be followed.

Second OffenseThe young person will be asked to leave the event immediately, no negotiation will be entered into. In this case the procedure for anti-social or disruptive behaviour will be followed.
